Greetings
About 20 (and a half) years ago, I entered this world with the
help of two wonderful human beings I call Mom and Dad. It was a great time to
be alive.
For the first couple years of my life, I had an overwhelming
amount of attention on me. It was like my parents had nothing to do but sit
around and wait for me to start crying over my wet diaper or whatever was wrong
with me. Around the time I was 3 years old, my parents moved us from Daly City,
California to Jersey City, New Jersey. That was the year I met, Lauren, my
favorite little sister. She is hilarious. Like laughing crying where your
stomach feels like you've been working out all day, but you actually had some
In-N-Out for breakfast. She was always crawling way too slow to keep up with
me. Now that she's been playing basketball for ten years, I'm the slow one. I
can beat her in a dance battle any day though.
Fast forward my life to 4th grade. Ahhh, the prepubescent memories
just come rollin' in. On my way to school one morning, father dearest drops
some very exciting news, "Erin, you're mom might be pregnant." So
there I am at 9 years old, sitting in class the whole day distracted because my
mom might be pregnant. If there's anything
I've learned in my 20 years, it's that my mother should handle breaking news to
me. My dad is great, just not great at timing things. To celebrate me moving up
to the 5th grade, and Lauren to the 2nd, Katelyn (aka Katie aka KMad) decides
to join us on June 12, 2006. This tiny ball of fire is probably one of my
greatest successes. Everyone who knows my cute, 10 year old sister, knows that
Katie takes shit from no one. If you couldn’t already tell, I wear my
heart on my sleeve for my younger sisters. I’ve always taken my role as the
oldest child very seriously. I truly believe that my sisters are a big part of
the reason I am the way I am. I hold myself to a high standard because my
parents have embedded the idea that all my actions have and will be used as a
model for both of my sisters.
Over the past few years I’ve spent away at college, I have focused
on surrounding myself with people that push me to be the best version of
myself. It’s unreal how fast time has gone by. I see freshmen walking around
campus and experiencing State for the first time. I can’t help but be a little
jealous. Seeing a new group of people have the opportunity to learn the things
I’ve learned about myself at SDSU makes me happy.
Well that got a little deeper than I thought it
would. I’ll just cover some basic things about me. I’m from the Bay Area, but I
lived in the east coast for a few years until kindergarten. I am a double major
in Kinesiology (pre-PT) and Dance. Why those majors you ask? Kinesiology is the study of the mechanics of
body movements. I can also argue that dance is the study of body movements in a
different context. I study the clean-cut scientific terms in my ENS classes,
and put them into play in my dance classes. I get the best of both worlds like
Hannah Montana. I love food. Not just tacos or pizza, but more like finding the
best place to get tacos or pizza. Foodventures with anyone and everyone. I
think I’m funny. I often quote movies in regular conversation. Don’t be
surprised if something comes up in my blogs!
One of my favorite people would have to be the dude in the
top left picture. That is THE homie. I absolutely adore that guy. As corny as
it sounds, we just get each other. Wow. I sound so lame, but it’s fine. He goes
to school a million miles away at Sacramento State. This is just a warning to
anyone wondering, long distance relationships are not hard, but they’re also
not easy. It really depends on how
much you cherish your relationship with that person. If he wants to mess around
with people at his school, by all means he can. I just wouldn’t want to deal
with that. Love yourself the same way (actually more) than you would love your
significant other.

I’m excited for this class. Not just because Erin has a cool name, but I’m really eager to learn more about writing in other contexts. This blog assignment was pretty fun. See your faces in class!
Peace out friends.

Hey Erin,
ReplyDeleteLoved the post. I also love the fact you wear your heart on your sleeves. Preach girl! But anyway, I really liked hearing about how you strive to be the best possibly older sister. Thats so important, and coming from a family with two brothers, I understand the dynamic a little. Your area of study I find to be very interesting. I've never considered dance and Kinesiology to go together, but they really do go hand in hand. You're going to enjoy that i feel like and really take away a lot from it. I'm going to look forward to your posts throughout the semester because I know you'll tell it how it is. Keep keeping it real!

Hi Erin!
ReplyDeleteI really liked your post, your personality definitely comes through and it was very fun to read! I live about an hour north of Sacramento so that is really cool that your boyfriend goes to Sac State! Long distance relationships are definitely not easy, but do-able for sure. Best of luck! Also, I like that you love food because I am definitely a big foodie as well so if you need someone to go on foodventures with, I am always down!
